Our Teachers

Mrs. Loraine Purdey

Mrs. Purdey has worked as a teacher at Dakota Nursery School since 1990. Prior to that she was a stay-at-home mom and raised her own two children. She also earned an income through her own home daycare.  Loraine is an avid gardener and enjoys reading, crocheting and quilting.

Now that she and her husband and I are “empty nesters”, she very much enjoys welcoming the children each morning and afternoon and is grateful to be able to work in her home Community Centre. Loraine's goal is to make each family’s experience at Dakota Nursery School both educational and FUN.

Mrs. Marla Osato

Mrs. Osato joined Dakota Nursery School in September of 2016.  Marla is an Early Childhood Educator II as a graduate of the Early Childhood Education Program at Red River College.  Marla has been a full-time nanny prior to going to Red River College.  She was employed for 10 years as an ECE II at St. Amant Centre, where she cared for children ranging from infants to pre-kindergarten.  Marla worked with groups of children and 1-on-1 with children who had special needs.  In addition to raising her three children who are now in elementary school, Marla operated a home daycare.

Marla’s passion is connecting with and educating young children.  Marla has spent much of her life in the South St. Vital community and takes a lot of pride in seeing her former “kids” develop and grow.

Marla enjoys baking, reading, crafting and spending time with her family.  Some of her favourite things include spending time in the sun, going to the zoo, chocolate and anything Disney.

Mrs. Lori Hughes

Mrs. Hughes first joined Dakota Nursery School in 2010, providing inclusion support to children in the classroom with additional needs. She is an ECE III, graduating from Red River College’s Early Childhood Education diploma, and continuing on with a Certificate in Infant Care. Prior to becoming a parent to her now 13 and 11-year-old daughters, she was employed at K.E.E.P. Child Care Inc., in roles of both ECE and Director.  Currently in addition to teaching at Dakota Nursery School, she also performs the role of Director at Friends Together Nursery School located in Fort Garry.

Lori loves connecting with each child as individuals and seeing the growth and development the children experience through the school year!

Lori and her family spend the summers camping throughout the province, enjoying swimming, biking, hiking and campfires! She also enjoys cross-stitching, painting pottery, baking, cooking and walking her basset hound.
