Seniors Compete at Dakota CC's Floor Curling Bonspiel

20 teams comprising of 80 older adult participants from Gimli, Winkler, Beausjour, Steinbach, and Winnipeg came together to compete in the 13th annual Floor Curling Bonspiel this past March at the Dakota Community Centre.

Karen Irvine, Boni-vital Seniors Resource Finder / Lazer 55+ Facilitator, is proud of the fact that so many older adults are willing to travel to compete in the Bonspiel helping make it the success that it is. “It’s a great event that draws people from all over, not just from Winnipeg.”

The event also helps showcase Dakota Community Centre’s facilities and what the centre has to offer by being held in The Great Hall upstairs.

With very few physical limitations to hamper a person’s ability to play floor curling, one can even play sitting in a chair, the Bonspiel is a great opportunity for older adults to leave the home, be active, and enjoy each other’s company.

“What helps make the Bonspiel a successful event is that it brings older adults from around the province together in one location giving them a chance to socialize,” says Karen.

But the good times aren’t over yet. The floor curling season is winding down, but will be back in full swing come late September!
