Renovation Grant Gives Dakota CC a Facelift

A $50,000 grant from the City of Winnipeg has resulted in some important upgrades to the Jonathan Toews Sportsplex this past year.

As a result of this grant, new molded sinks now replace the old sinks and counter tops in the 2nd floor washrooms (near the stairs), as well as new raised toilets have been installed in each of the handicapped stalls.  The Great Hall washrooms, also on the 2nd floor received a complete overhaul, including new molded sinks, new commercial vinyl flooring and a reconfiguration to provide for a fully accessible stall in each washroom, where previously none existed.

On the Main Floor, 19 new doors have replaced the former twenty-year old ‘well-worn’ ones in all the dressing rooms, shower rooms, and in the referee room.  New flooring also replaces the old tile in the Centre’s two maintenance rooms, to make cleaning these areas a bit easier.

“With the new Fieldhouse opening this fall, we have placed a great emphasis on ensuring that our existing facilities also receive the care and attention they deserve after 20 – 30 years of serving this community, said Michele Augert, DCC’s CEO.  “The renovation grant has certainly helped get some needed upgrades in place.”

Janice Lukes, City of Winnipeg Councillor for South Winnipeg stopped by recently to take a look at the renovations. “It’s great to see Dakota’s focus on keeping the Centre in great shape and, so pleased  these renovation dollars can help with such important upgrades.”

The maximum $50,000 Community Centre Renovation Grant Program is available annually to support repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements, and renovation projects at City of Winnipeg Community Centres.

A big thanks to the City of Winnipeg for their generosity and our Maintenance Team for getting this work done!
