Paddles Out! - Manitoba Open Pickleball Championship 2018

The first ever Manitoba Open Pickleball Championship, organized by Pickleball Manitoba, was held at the Dakota Fieldhouse from May 22 – 25 bringing people together for some friendly competition.

Approximately 162 participants, with the vast majority ranging in ages from 60 to 70, made it out for the event. Participants came from Manitoba, outside the province, and the United States creating over 70 teams for competition.

Jared Neufeld, Fieldhouse Coordinator hopes the event will continue next year. “We would love to see the event continue to grow in terms of size and scope and hope that Dakota CC along with Pickleball Manitoba will host the event in the Fieldhouse again.”

​The competition was broken down into pairs teams and singles: Tuesday – Ladies Doubles, Wednesday – Mixed Doubles, Thursday – Men’s Doubles, and Friday – Singles. Twelve Pickleball courts were set-up to accommodate the games.

Event attendees consisted of participants and a few spectators coming out to watch the action on the courts.

Commenting on the overall impression of the tournament Neufeld says, “The tournament was very well organized with enthusiastic competitors fostering a competitive spirit.”
