GROUP FITNESS CLASSES
Here at Dakota Community Centre, we strive to provide fitness classes that will help you stay active, provide social connection and add variety to your fitness journey. Our welcoming environment provides a positive experience for all fitness levels no matter your ability.
Put your best foot forward with a variety of strength/cardio, Pilates/yoga & Zumba/dance classes!
Weights, resistance bands, mini stability balls and exercise mats will be provided.
Please bring your own yoga mat to yoga & pilates.
HOW TO RESERVE A SPOT IN A CLASS
Click the SignUp.com button above to reserve a spot in one or more of our Group Fitness Classes then follow the steps below:
- Scroll to the date on which you would like to attend a class - click on the class name to view the location & instructor name.
- Click on the green 'Sign Up' button for that class.
- If it is your first time signing up with us, you will be asked to enter your email address. Select 'Continue' and then 'Confirm'.
- Enter your first and last name (required).
- Enter the number of spots you are reserve, i.e. 1 spot (required) - if reserving a spot for more than one person, please reserve the spot with their name,
- Enter your phone number (optional) - we may need to reach out in case of any cancellations otherwise we'll send you an email!
- Select 'Save and Done'.
Spots will be available to reserve on a month-by-month basis and will become available on the last Thursday of the month for the next month.
Note: if you need to cancel the spot you reserved, you can do so from the SignUp.com button above, clicking on the blue 'My Spots' button and then 'Remove'. Alternatively, you may call our Customer Service desk at (204) 254-1010. Please cancel your reserved spot at least 24 hours in advance so that we may offer the spot to another participant.
CLASS SCHEDULE
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Yoga / Pilates:
Whether you are new to yoga or an experienced yogi, our classes allow members to adjust and modify as needed. Please bring a yoga mat to all the classes.
- Chair Yoga – Ease pain and tension in your body brought on over time by everyday stress and use. This class will focus on breathing, balance, flexibility and range of motion.
- Gentle Flow Yoga – A slow-paced gentle flow class will concentrate more on a few poses that are linked together into a flowing sequence onto the next pose.
- Yin Yang Yoga – The main focus is on a few poses with transitioning taking place to a similar pose (either upright or on the floor). This class offers a slower pace with the same benefit as a regular class.
- Restorative Yoga – Restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. We use props to support the postures, while gently stretching and strengthening the body.
- Restorative Yin – This class focuses on restoring deeply held tensions in the body and mind. Poses are held for a longer amount of time targeting the deepest and connective tissues of your body.
- Yoga Flow – Yoga poses are linked fluidly but held long enough for the student to adjust to a healthy alignment and mental awareness.
- Simple Pilates – A great program for those who need to strengthen their core, improve body awareness and prevent back injuries.
- Barre – Barre is a fusion of Ballet, Pilates and strengthening techniques. This total body conditioning technique is guaranteed to tighten, tone, sculpt and strengthen your entire body.
- NEW Barre Boot Camp - Combines elements of Barre with cardio bursts that challenge your endurance and burns calories.
- Pilates – Improve your flexibility, core strength, balance and posture.
Cardio & Strength:
Weights, bands & mats will be provided. Our instructors can help with modifications based on your fitness level.
- NEW Butts & Guts - This class will help you shape your butt, flatten your abs and improve your strength and endurance.
- Gentle Fitness (formerly P.A.C.E) – Introducing a gentle exercise program for individuals with moderate or reduced mobility or those looking to get back into a fitness routine.
- Growing Stronger – Growing Stronger is a strength and balance class that will help you regain muscle and keep it strong.
- Hi-Lo Strength – This is an easy-to-follow and low-impact class designed to strengthen the cardiovascular system, tone muscles, and boost balance, flexibility and endurance. Dumbbells, resistance bands and mats are used.
- Tone & Strength – The class will begin with a short cardio warm-up and end with gentle stretching. Firm up those legs, tone your arms and tighten your abs. Improves muscular and cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and overall strength.
- Total Body Strength – 60-minute class with a brief cardio segment to warm up and then focuses on strength and muscle endurance for the entire body including the core. Weights, bands & mats are used.
- Strength & Cardio - An easy-paced and low-impact class designed to work your cardiovascular system, muscular endurance, flexibility and overall fitness. Dumbbells and resistance bands are used.
Zumba / Dance:
Join these fun and energetic classes and make new friends. Friends don't let friends dance alone.
- Zumba Gold – Follow Zumba moves at a lower intensity that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat and prepared to leave empowered and feeling strong!
- Fitness Dance – You’ll explore a variety of styles and genres of music! And the best thing is you can't get this wrong, no dance experience is required!
- Zumba – A cardio workout that incorporates music and dance movements in a highly energized and positive class. This class will improve not only your cardio endurance but your mood as well.
- Zumba Toning – Cardio workout that combines with muscle conditioning to improve flexibility, coordination, graceful hip movement and increase cardio endurance while toning your body. Dumbbells are used.
SESSION-BASED PROGRAMMING
Intro to Resistance Training
In this leader-guided class, participants learn the fundamentals of resistance training including proper form, correct posture and appropriate intensity based on fitness level and goals. Participants will be introduced to selectorized equipment, dumbbells and body weight exercises each week. This program will help people new to resistance training feel more comfortable using the equipment and safely expanding their workout options.
When: Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Dates: 4 week sessions (Sep 6 – Sep 27) (Oct 4 – Oct 25) (Nov 1 – Nov 22) (Nov 29 – Dec 20)
Location: Dakota Fitness Centre (Track)
Cost: $55 + GST
Combines strength and cardio exercise to get your heart pumping and make you sweat. Whether you are new to fitness or a seasoned veteran, this class gives you energy and confidence to live a healthy life.
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Dates: 10 week sessions (Oct 3 – Dec 12) (Jan 2 – Mar 5) (Mar 11 – May 13)
Location: Weight Room / Sportsplex Gym / Track
Cost: $120 + GST
A combination of cardio, strength and mobility training to increase your metabolism and make you lean.
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.
Dates: 10 week sessions (Oct 10 – Dec 5) (Jan 2 – Mar 5) (Mar 12 – May 14)
Location: Weight Room (Sportsplex) / Dakota Fitness Centre (Track)

NEW Fun & Functional 55+
A new class that uses fun activities to teach functional movements exercises that will allow you to continue living at home with confidence.
When: Saturdays, 10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Dates: 8 week sessions (Oct 14 – Dec 2) (Jan 6 – Feb 24) (Mar 2 – Apr 20)
Location: Health & Wellness Studio
Cost: $95 + GST

Improve your body and spirit with high-energy cardio and high-emotion mantras that will leave you uplifted, connected and strong.
When: Mondays, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Dates: 8 week sessions (Sept 11 – Nov 6) (Jan 8 – Feb 26) (Mar 4 – Apr 22)
Location: Great Hall (Sportsplex)

Let's Move, Let's Dance
A fusion of Latin and international Music and rhythms as Cha cha cha, Salsa, Merengue, Columbia, Disco etc. Great way to burn calories, improve coordination and balance. Please bring dance or indoor shoes or runners with smooth soles.
When: Mondays, 12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Dates: 6 week sessional (Sept 11 – Oct 16) (Oct 23 – Nov 27) (Jan 8 – Feb 12) (Feb 19 – Mar 25) (Apr 1 – May 6)
Location: Sportsplex Gym

Low intensity exercise and lifestyle counseling for people living with lung disease (C.O.P.D.).
When: Tuesdays, 12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Dates: 8 week sessions (Oct 3 – Nov 21) (Jan 2 – Feb 20) (Feb 27 – Apr 16)
Location: Great Hall (Sportsplex)
Cost: $65 + GST
Enhance your game by using Pilates based exercises to target muscle groups used in pickleball to improve mobility, strengthen your core and avoid injuries. This class is essential to improving your game.
When: Mondays, 10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Dates: 10 week sessions (Oct 2 – Dec 12) (Jan 8 – Mar 11) (Mar 18 – May 20)
Location: Great Hall (Sportsplex)

Total Body Training
Consists of aerobic, functional strength, core training, balance and flexibility using free weights and machines.
When: Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Dates: 10 week sessions (Oct 14 – Dec 16) (Jan 6 – Mar 9) (Mar 16 – May 18)
