This significant funding brings our community one step closer to delivering the next generation of recreation, sport, and family-focused amenities for south Winnipeg.“With demand for modernized ice time, childcare, and recreation at an all-time high, this expansion marks a pivotal moment for our community,” said Michele Augert, President and CEO of DCC. “This investment ensures that DCC remains a place where people of all ages can connect, grow, and thrive—and we’re incredibly proud to take this next step together.”This funding is provided through the federal Building Communities Strong Fund and the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. The investment will allow DCC’s Arena and Recreation Centre Expansion Project to advance to the Request for Proposals stage, enabling the selection of an architect and design team for the expansion, as well as planning for important modifications to prepare the site to be shovel ready.“This investment will help ensure the DCC continues to serve as a vital gathering place for residents,” said the Honourable Terry Duguid, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South. “By supporting this expansion, we are enhancing energy efficiency, reducing operating costs, and making the centre more accessible and resilient for years to come.”Today’s federal announcement represents a key milestone in advancing DCC’s Arena and Recreation Centre Expansion Project from vision to reality.In the months ahead the design process will include opportunities for comprehensive public consultation, which will help shape the design and ensure the project reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.
